Sergius spent most part of his life in the Troitskiy monastery founded by him. Here he became famous as an extraordinary ascetic in Christian and monastic meaning of this word. Besides, Sergius was famous as one of the leading adherents of "common life" – a new for those times form of monks' life in Russia.
However, Sergius was not only a church figure. His circle of activities was not limited only by the monastery territory.
