The Princess of Saudi Arabia "took up her residence" in the gallery of Nikolai Shmatko

Nikolai Shmatko intends to make the image of Basmah Bint Saud Bin Abdulaziz out of white Carrara marble.

A new work appeared in the gallery of Nikolai Shmatko. The sculptor remains faithful to his main topic – creation of women's images. This time the ideal of woman's beauty was represented by the sculptural portrait of the Princess of Saudi Arabia Basmah Bint Saud Bin Abdulaziz.

One of the western journalists asked the sculptor why it was her to be chosen and why this image attracted the artist.

– She is a smart, wise woman of earthly beauty, and, at the same time, she is a politician and a human rights activist, who demands for reforms in her country and protects the rights of Arabic women. One cannot help admiring her. With my work I showed my respectful attitude to the Princess.

The bust is made of plaster, but this is just the beginning of the work. Nikolai Shmatko intends to make the image of Basmah Bint Saud Bin Abdulaziz out of white Carrara marble. The favourite stone of the sculptor will give refinement, tenderness and majesty to the image of the Princess. By this work the sculptor wants to convince us of the fact that we are indebted to this woman for many things in our lives.
